Form- "Restore" coverage to a vehicle on your auto policy
What is "Lay-Up" or "Restore" coverage?
Many of our permanent and seasonal clients find that during different parts of the year they have vehicles that are not used. Whether the vehicle is a summer car, a winter four wheel drive pickup or just an extra vehicle there is an option that can reduce your insurance cost. For autos with Other Than Collision coverage on the auto policy you can choose to remove all the insurance coverage except Other Than Collision coverage and "Lay-Up" the vehicle. In essence the term "lay-up" is a short way of saying that the vehicle is away in storage and it is not in use. When a change like this is made the vehicle is no longer legal for use on the road and any damage the vehicle sustains other than what's covered by Other Than Collision Coverage is not covered under your auto policy. Other than Collision Coverage includes but is not limited to loss caused by: Fire; Theft or larceny; Malicious mischief or vandalism; Explosion or earthquake; Windstorm; Hail, water or flood; and Riot or civil commotion. As you can imagine at some time during the year the auto on "lay-up" is needed. At that point the coverage on the vehicle is "Restored" and the vehicle is once again legal for road use and is protected with the coverage and deductibles that you select to best meet your needs. How Does "Lay-Up" or "Restore" work? When you are ready to "lay-up" your vehicle or "restore" the coverage on your vehicle in storage all you have to do is complete the simple policy change request form below. Once this form is submitted it will go to our agency and then the information will be communicated to the insurance company. The coverage change is not in effect until you receive notification from our agency or the insurance carrier that the coverage is in place. Simple as that! One warning Be sure that when you put away or take your vehicle out of storage that you have changed the policy coverage for the appropriate use of the vehicle and receive notification that the coverage is in place. This process can provide great savings to you but it also places the coverage responsibility on your shoulders. |
